Yours truly, Genghis

Here's my own reconstruction of the personal seal of Genghis Khan (and all subsequent Great Khans). Supposedly there was a red one for official documents and a blue one for personal documents. My grasp of Classical Mongolian script is a little shaky, but I'm about 95% sure I got the text right. It says:

“By the power of Eternal Heaven, let the decree of the Oceanic Khan of the Great Mongol Nation be respected and feared by subjects and foes alike.”

Literally translated it's more like :"Eternal Heaven's power under, Great Mongol Nation's Oceanic Khan's decree, subject or hostile people reach if, should revere, should fear." Thank Eternal Heaven's power under for poetic license.

More works in Progress

More works in progress. Doing backgrounds and characters separately, like animation. These are just backgrounds. I'm working with mixed media. Some manipulated photos, some hand drawn stuff. For anyone who thinks photo manipulation is "cheating", it's just as labor-intensive as drawing by hand. Most of the photos have to be tinkered with considerably to get the desired look and to fit with my compositional needs. I also warp them intentionally to create slightly off-kilter angles. Trying for film noir vibe. Too gray? Too bleak? Too depressing? too bad, I'm going with it. The magic continues.

Update: Red AND Blue + hat

After further tinkering (it never ends) I've decided to go with both red AND blue. Plus I added a big-ass hat, because people with big-ass hats get shit done. Are YOU wearing a big-ass hat? And are you getting anything done? I rest my case.

RED OR BLUE?

UPDATE: The polls are now officially closed. Red won the most votes, followed by blue in second place, a mild draft in third place, and fudge as the big loser. But I've decided to go with a third option: purple. Maybe it's the ghost of Prince weaving a funky, sexy spell over me, or maybe it's just because the combination of cool colors in the back and warm colors up front creates more depth and contrast. Either one. But thanks for voting! It meant nothing in the end. A bitter but sobering lesson for us all in this crucial election year.

Mandala Finished

Mahakala has arrived! We're saved!

Although I'll probably go with this color scheme.
